CollegeAPP releases newest statewide data as discussion over gender disparity reaches mainstream

[Los Angeles, CA, January 4, 2022]: For the first time since CollegeAPP started creating predictive models  focused on adult intent for education and training, males with high intent are outnumbering females in a new  statewide dataset released in December 2021. Of those adults with the highest intent in Iowa, nearly 58% are  men, making Iowa the first state in which men have higher probability to intend to enroll in education and  training.

“The timing of the Iowa survey and models is compelling,” said Jack MacKenzie, CollegeAPP President. “In the  past few months education media has begun shining a light on the longstanding enrollment differences between  men and women and the pandemic appears to have hardened those differences.”

The newly released Iowa data shows that males comprise 57.8% of the adults with the highest likelihood to  intend to enroll in education or training in the next two years. “This is, without question, the most current data  on demand for education in the US. In Iowa, we see more than a half million adults over the age of the 25 have  a high probability of intending to enroll in education and training in the next two years. Now is the time for  colleges and universities to proactively find these adults and guide them on their journey,” MacKenzie said.

CollegeAPP started surveying states in January 2020. During that time, the company has conducted 50 surveys,  including several states more than once, to stay ahead of the changing economy created by COVID-19 disruptions. In those statewide surveys, CollegeAPP has surveyed more than 120,000 US adults.

“During our first year, CollegeAPP models were strikingly similar to current higher ed enrollments, between 57  and 60 percent female. We look forward to working with Iowa’s education leaders to consider the implications of this gender balanced demand inside the adult population” MacKenzie said. “More than 80 colleges,  universities and graduate programs are using our data to create and execute successful campaigns targeting  adult students, and each time we add a new state we are excited by the possibilities.”

MacKenzie announced that education intent models in seven New England states will be released later this  week.
